Cardiology Fellowship

Technology

As one of this country’s premier technologically advanced health systems, Lehigh Valley Health Network is dedicated to providing fellows with the most advanced resources available. Each fellow is provided a Lifebook laptop upon starting that is wirelessly connected to the network intranet. This laptop provides constant access to the electronic medical record system, patient data, imaging reports, and dictated documents. In addition, the wireless capabilities of these devices allows for quick access to medical resources such as Up to Date, Med Consult, e-journals and various electronic texts.

The entire health network has an ordering system through CAPOE (Computer Assisted Physician Order Entry). CAPOE allows physicians to quickly enter orders for patients in the computer and to efficiently provide communication to nursing or pharmacy staff.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is dedicated to ensuring residents and fellows are able to fully manage all of their educational and professional responsibilities. A management software program has been implemented called New Innovations that is utilized by all the residents. This program provides real time access and management for schedules, documentation, curricula, procedure logs and much more for every resident. Printable reports are also available in case a fellow may need verification for licensure, or future employment. This program is accessible anywhere via the internet and provides the fellowship with consistent communication with the fellows.

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) implementation is underway with several practices in the network utilizing software for documentation management. EMR will be coming soon to the LVPP (Lehigh Valley Physician Practice) cardiology fellowship continuity clinic. EMR is also planned in the cardiology attending full time office practice.

Fully digital radiology imaging system, digital cardiac catheterization system and digital echocardiography laboratory are up and running. Digital echocardiography report utilized, data base under development. Cardiovascular information system is pending purchase. Real time 3 dimensional echocardiography system is available in the faculty ambulatory patient office.
